Bob Piper's Corner - March 15, 1987

March 15, 1987
I have been asked if the office of Dr. Gutch is still in existence. Yes, it is. This one-room building stood on the east of Dr. Gutch’s lot. Dr. Gutch’s home was the house that the Baptist Church bought and razed. His home and the office were built by Dr. McKlveen. This office was moved to a lot just west of the American Legion Home and has been added onto and is still there.

Also, people want to know where the homes are that were moved when the high school was built. The first one on the south was torn down. The next one was moved to North 8th, the second house north of the old Lutheran Church. It’s still there. The next was moved to North 8th, across from Joe Ruddell’s. The next one was moved to the northwest corner of 11th Street and Park Avenue. This house was moved into our neighborhood, so I could give valuable assistance (in my estimation). But Riley West, the owner, had other ideas. He put up with me because my work was free. The last one of the five houses was not moved. Beardsleys owned this and didn’t sell.

Our ride -

Prior, George and myself took off at 2 p.m. in my car with Prior driving. That way I can look around. We went to Bob White Park and Nine Eagles. We went through Derby, Humeston, High Point, Leon, Corydon, Woodburn, Davis City, Pleasanton and Allerton. We discussed the words err and laid. Basketball took up the big part of the time.
